One of our highest priorities at Summit is developing exceptional leaders. We’ve collected 7 of our favorite quotes about leadership to give you a dose of wisdom and insight today! Check out Part 1…

1) “What you do has far greater impact than what you say.”—Stephen Covey

You may have heard the message of this quote before in a different form: “Actions speak louder than words.” To be an effective leader, you have to lead by example. Your team is more likely to follow you if you make a habit of doing the tasks that you ask them to do alongside them, rather than simply ordering them around. The same concept applies to behaviors as well. If you want your team to have positive characteristics such as punctuality, honesty, and a strong work ethic, you need to exhibit those qualities first.

2) “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.”—John F. Kennedy

One of the most common qualities of good leaders is that they have a student mentality. Similarly, one of the most common attitudes among poor leaders is that they assume they are wise or powerful enough to stop learning. Even a president seeks support and guidance from a team of advisors. Whether you’re a CEO or the head of a small team, chances are that there’s always someone who knows just a little bit more than you and could teach you a thing or two.

3) “The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority.”—Kenneth Blanchard

It’s important to remember that just because you have the title of a leader does not mean that you also have the influence of one. If the people that you have authority over don’t respect you, they will either follow you begrudgingly or not at all—neither of which is likely to produce favorable results. Influence must be earned!
